Duke University SAT Policy

Duke is test-optional for the admissions cycle of 2024-25. This means that your SAT and ACT scores are no longer required as part of your application. The students who choose not to submit their test scores will not be at a disadvantage to other Duke applicants as a result of this policy. However, the college will accept the test scores for those students who want to include SAT or ACT scores as part of their applications to Duke.

Many students choose to make use of the test-optional policy and not submit their SAT score or ACT score in 2024. You should include your score if you think it will make your application stand out. 

Here are the Duke University SAT score ranges for the middle 50% of accepted students for the past three years:

Duke University Application Timeline

Duke offers two application plans: early decision and regular decision. The plans differ based on whether or not you are committed to Duke as your first choice of school. Early decision plans are binding, meaning that if your application to Duke is accepted you must withdraw your applications to other universities and attend Duke.

Duke University English Proficiency Testing Requirements

Duke does not require English Proficiency tests from international students but they do recommend it. You can still submit English language test scores from an English language school if you want to. The language tests accepted by Duke are TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, Cambridge C1 advanced or C2 proficiency and the Duolingo English test. The minimum expected scores at Duke are given below:
