Why did this company run

Chinese ads in London?

During the 2012 London Olympics, Chinese company Yili ran advertisements on London buses.

But why did this campaign turn heads?

The ads are mostly written in Mandarin, show unknown Chinese People and are advertising a dairy product that is not even available in London!

There were a few different reasons…

So why did this company think this was a good idea?

The campaign was a collaboration between Yili and a Chinese media company to boost the image of the average sporty Chinese citizen, during the London Olympics.

They wanted global exposure and knew that the number of tourists in the city would rise significantly at this time (including Chinese tourists).

Most importantly, they wanted an attention-grabbing campaign. And these unique and confusing ads did that perfectly!
