What does a cinematographer really do?

Also known as the director of photography, a cinematographer is in charge of the camera and light crews

They are responsible for the recording and photographing of a film, television show, music video etc.

Pre- production

They sit down with the director of the piece to understand their vision and how to go about filming

Production

Lighting elements, camera angles and shot sizes  are just some of the things the cinematographer will overse

Post- production

After filming is complete they work with editors to make sure the director’s vision is retained

A cinematographer is responsible for the visual style and feel of a film which affects its interpretation

In the hindi film industry cinematographers may earn one lakh a year to start with, but this can easily rise to upto 6 lakhs a year
