Who is an IFS officer?

An IFS officer is the authority that represents our country in international territories

Responsibilities

Framing and executing the Government’s foreign policies and overseeing the activities of Indian missions abroad

Nationality Criteria

Indian citizen

Subject of Bhutan/Nepal

Tibetan refugee who came to India for permanent settlement before January 1, 1962

Other Nationality Criteria

A person of Indian origin who has migrated to India from one of the following countries:

Pakistan

Burma

Sri Lanka

Kenya

Uganda

The United Republic of Tanzania

Zambia

Malawi

Zaire

Ethiopia

Vietnam

Educational Qualification

A Bachelor’s degree from any recognised university or an equivalent qualification is required for this position

Age Limit

You must be between 21 and 32 years old on 1st August of the year of the exam

Clear the Civil Services Exam

To become an IFS officer, the candidate needs to clear all three stages of the Civil Services exam

Stage 1

Preliminary exam with multiple choice questions

Stage 2

Main exam with descriptive questions

Once selected, you are provided with a salary of Rs.60,000 per month and other government benefits
