How the SAT exam is changing in 2023

The SAT exam is undergoing it’s biggest change in years, take a look at the key differences to the new digital SAT Exam

Mode of Testing

The old SAT required written pencil to paper answers, however the new SAT will go digital via new special College Board software.

Duration

The previous SAT exam was 3 hours long. From 2023 the digital SAT will be only 2 hours in length.

Number of Attempts

Previously test takers were only allowed 5 attempts, but with the new SAT 7 tries will be allowed.

Reading and Writing

The new SAT will have shorter passages with one question for each passage instead of longer passages with multiple questions each.

Mathematics

Built-in Desmos calculators in the new software will be allowed for the full section of the new SAT.

Results

Results will now be available to applicants in only a few days instead of in weeks as with the old SAT.

Testing Centres

The new SAT promises many more available test centers to make the exam more accessible.
