How to become a Mechanical Engineer? [4 Step Guide]

Step 1: Stream Selection

After 10th grade, you should choose a science major that includes physics, chemistry, and maths as key subjects. You must have completed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with at least a 50% average in each subject.

You should begin preparing for B.tech entrance tests such as JEE and other entrance exams in order to gain admission to an engineering college as a mechanical engineer.

Step 2: Educational Qualification

To become a mechanical engineer, you must first complete a four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) program in mechanical engineering.

You can also study mechanical engineering for three years at polytechnic institutes and take a diploma in the same.

In addition, you can enhance your career by obtaining a two-year master’s degree in mechanical engineering (M.Tech).

(I) How to become a Mechanical Engineer after 10th

You can pursue a diploma in mechanical engineering, which is a three-year study that deals with the application of physics, manufacturing, designing, and applying basic physics principles to machines. To pursue a diploma in the same, you must have a minimum of 50% in your 10th grade. After finishing the same, you would be able to enter the second year of BTech in mechanical engineering.

How to become Mechanical Engineering abroad

Mechanical engineering is studied at three levels: undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral.

At the undergraduate level, you can pursue a BSc or a BEng (Bachelor of Engineering). A BEng can also be converted to an MEng, which is equivalent to a master’s degree and takes one extra year of study.

Undergraduate engineering programs can range from three to five years in length, depending on where you study and whether you spend a year on placement or overseas.

Mechanical engineering can be studied as a postgraduate degree over the course of one or two years.
