Furthermore, they serve as the board of directors’ chief advisor, suggesting ways to create financial reports, conduct business, develop corporate strategy, deal with situations involving a conflict of interest, and so on. 

How To Become A Company Secretary?

Step 1: Stream Selection

To become a Company Secretary, it is ideal if you choose the Commerce stream after 10th. While you study to become a Company Secretary, you will also study Company Law, Basic accounting, and Taxation. Therefore, it is best if you choose Commerce after 10th as it will cover the basics of accounting.

Step 2: Certificate and Project Courses

Students must take the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Foundation course after 12th. The foundation course lasts for eight months. The foundation course must be completed within three years of admission.

Students who have completed the ICSI Foundation Course may enrol in the ICSI Intermediate Course. Graduates and Postgraduates (excluding Fine Arts students) can, however, enrol directly in the Intermediate course without first completing the Foundation course.

Students who pass the ICSI Intermediate course are eligible for the final stage of the ICSI course, which is the Final.

The duration of the Company Secretary course can range from 3 to 5 years, depending on how long it takes students to pass their exams.

Step 3: Educational Qualification

How To Become A Company Secretary After 10th? 

After completion of 10th, you will need to take admission in the Commerce stream in 11th and 12th.

How To Become A Company Secretary After 12th? 

You are eligible to start the ICAI course to become a Company Secretary after completing 12th. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree, you can pursue an executive program followed by a professional program.

Step 3: Job Preparation

If you want to know how to become a Company Secretary, you must participate in short-term training programs during the Intermediate level and after the final level exams of the Company Secretary course.

Practical training is required after completing an Intermediate or Final level course to obtain ICAI Associate Membership. After successfully completing practical training and the final level ICSI course, you would qualify for the position of Associate Company Secretary.
